Reason 2: Specialized E5 Road Bike 2003

I am the proud owner of a 2003 Specialized E5 road bike in Zebra colours. I really don't know how many were made, but, this bike is absolutely unique in my area. Its a replica of the Mario Cipollini bike in Acqua Sapone colours. I bought the Bike in Denver somewhere around 2005 and it is now well known throughout Port Elizabeth. I was one of the first Specialized riders in PE and now the brand is very dominant. Did my Zebra stripped bike play a role in that popularity. I think so!

  1. I am looking at buying the same bike, but not sure what they should go for, can I ask what you paid for the used one in 2005? And what it should be worth now?

    Thanks

  2. I can't quite remember what I paid for it. It was in dollars and it is an S-Works. I think it was around US$2800 at the time which was an absolute bargain. That was full Dura Ace with Mavic Kysurium SL's. What's it worth - in my opinion irreplaceble. All the new bikes are coming out with a similar colour scheme and who can forget the days of suave Mario!

  5. I do believe it was Flo Red (or is Flo a friend with numerous engagements?). Still love my Zebra and going strong. Tried to check the colours on the Specialized website, but, it seems their archive now only goes back to 2007. Disappointing! The way of the Web - wonderful content gets lost.

  6. Wow, that sucks! Here's website with a pic of my red bike: http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2004&Brand=Specialized&Model=S-Works+E5+Road&Type=bike

Thanks for your timely reply. I like the stretched-out geometry of this bike and the aggressive climbing positions it offers on steep hills. When it came to hills I'm sure Super Mario wanted to make quick work of them.

I built it up myself. The only thing I need to do now is replace the noisy POS FSA Gossamer compact crank and bottom bracket. I think a SRAM Apex will work nicely.

"Whore Red" is a lipstick color a drag queen requested from an old girlfriend of mine who was an Avon sales rep.
